To make a domain you already own load a website hosted at WebFulHost, you point the domain at our nameservers. This guide walks you through the process and explains what to expect afterwards.
WebFulHost's nameservers
You'll replace the nameservers at your current registrar with these:
ns1.sitetheidea.com ns2.sitetheidea.com
Step by step
- A registrar is the company you bought the domain from (the place your domain was registered). WebFulHost is the registrar if you registered the domain as part of your order.
- Open the domain's DNS settings. Look for menu entries such as Manage DNS, Nameservers, DNS Management or Domain Settings. Wording varies between providers.
- Switch from "default" or "parked" to "custom" nameservers. Most registrars prefill their own nameservers. You need the option to enter your own.
- Enter ns1.sitetheidea.com and ns2.sitetheidea.com exactly as written. If the registrar asks for a primary and secondary, that's the pair.
- Remove the old nameservers if they were pre-filled, then save.
What happens next
Nameserver changes don't apply instantly. The update spreads across the internet's DNS infrastructure over the next few hours, usually completing within 24 hours and rarely taking longer than 48. During this time some visitors may see your new site and others your old one. See DNS Propagation Explained.
If your domain was pointed elsewhere
Changing nameservers redirects everything on the domain — your website and your email. If your email is hosted with a different provider and you change nameservers without adding that provider's DNS records, email can stop working. If in doubt, keep your email provider's MX and related records on the new nameservers, or ask WebFulHost support to help you plan the change.
