Transferring a domain moves its registration from one registrar to another. This is different from pointing nameservers (which only changes where the domain points). If you want to manage your domain and hosting in one place, a transfer is the clean way to do it.
What you need before you start
- An unlocked domain. Your current registrar may lock domains to prevent theft. Disable the lock in their dashboard first.
- The authorisation (EPP) code. A unique code for the domain, issued by your current registrar. Request it if you don't have one.
- A valid contact email at the domain's registrant contact, because transfer approval emails go there.
- Registrant contact details matching on both the old and new registrar.
What the process looks like
- Unlock the domain and request your EPP code from the current registrar.
- Start the transfer with WebFulHost, entering the EPP code when prompted.
- You'll receive an approval email from the losing registrar. Approve it (or let it expire — don't approve a transfer you no longer want).
- The domain moves across. A standard transfer completes within 5–7 days.
Times a transfer isn't allowed
- The domain was registered or last transferred less than 60 days ago.
- It has pending disputes or expired status.
- You changed the registrant contact within the last 60 days.
Extension-specific rules
Domains end in many extensions (.com, .net, .org and more), and each follows the same core transfer process. Some extensions carry extra rules set by their registry — your current registrar handles those and will tell you if anything special is needed. See How to Choose a Domain Name for how extensions work.
After the transfer
Once the transfer completes, your domain appears in your WebFulHost client area, renews through us at renewal time, and can be pointed at our nameservers exactly like any other domain.
