Email Not Receiving — Troubleshooting

New mail isn’t showing up? Check your MX records, mailbox quota, filters, spam folder and POP vs IMAP confusion.

Incoming mail can fail in a handful of ways — before it reaches your server, or inside it. Here's how to find out where things are getting stuck.

1. Is mail even reaching your server?

Mail for your domain is routed by its MX records. If the MX records don't point to WebFulHost's mail servers, messages go elsewhere.

  1. From a command prompt run nslookup -type=mx yourdomain.com.
  2. Check that the results list your domain's mail server (matching the hostname in your welcome email), not another provider.

This mistake is common right after switching hosting or nameservers. Confusingly, the rest of the site works — only mail is missing. Fix it in cPanel > Zone Editor, or with the help of the settings guide.

2. Check the spam folder properly

Open webmail and look at the Spam folder — stricter filters hide a surprising amount of legitimate mail. Read Why Are My Emails Going to Spam? to mark it as not spam.

3. Is the mailbox full?

A mailbox at 100% quota bounces new mail back to senders. In cPanel, open the mailbox and check its usage bar. Delete large attachments, or raise the quota if your plan allows it.

4. Filters and forwarding loops

Mailbox filters you (or a previous admin) created can delete, move or bounce your mail automatically. Review filters in cPanel and webmail settings. A forwarder pointed back at the same mailbox, or between two mailboxes that forward to each other, creates a loop that silently drops mail.

5. POP vs IMAP — the silent stealer

If you set your phone up with POP3, it downloads mail and (by default) deletes it from the server. On the PC, that mail is gone — it looks like it was never received. The fix for future mail is to switch the device to IMAP. Old messages stay on the device that downloaded them.

6. Test from another address

Send a test from a completely different provider (not another mailbox on the same domain). If that arrives but some senders can't reach you, a sending provider may be blocklisted — ask WebFulHost support to check, and share which sender failed.

Still missing messages after all this? Open a support ticket with the sender's address, approximate send time and your domain.
