Email forwarding automatically sends a copy of everything received at one address to another mailbox. It's handy when you want info@yourdomain.com delivered to your personal inbox, or when you're closing an old mailbox. Here's how it works at WebFulHost.
Create a forwarder
- Log into cPanel and open Forwarders (under Email).
- Click Add Forwarder.
- In Address to Forward, enter the first part of the address (the part before the @) and choose your domain.
- In Destination Email Address, enter where the mail should go.
- Click Add Forwarder.
Verify the destination
For safety, WebFulHost (and most hosts) doesn't activate a forwarder to a brand-new destination until that address confirms it. You'll get a verification email at the destination with a link. Click it, and forwarding starts. If you don't verify, the forwarder stays on "pending" and won't deliver.
Forward only, or keep a copy too?
WebFulHost forwarders move mail without storing it in your hosting account. If you want a copy kept on the server as well, add a Forward to a local mailbox plus the external address, or simply set up the mailbox (instead of a forwarder) and check it in webmail. This keeps a server-side archive.
Avoid forwarding loops
Never forward two addresses to each other, or an address to itself. Mail bounces between servers until it's deleted at the "maximum hops" limit — silently killing message delivery. See Email Not Receiving if you suspect a loop.
Removing a forwarder
Return to Forwarders in cPanel and click Delete next to the forwarder you want to remove, then confirm.
